What's your face wash?

Hi everyone! I’m new to raw foods and I just started no poo a week ago. It’s so liberating to get rid of all these expensive hair care products. This lead me to do a little cleaning in my many face care products. So, I’m wondering what are your face care and face washing rituals? (if this topic was already covered, can someone please give me the link?)

    Hi!

yes, I believe there are a few threads that discuss this – I think they are in the Other section.

But anyhow, I use nothing really. If I use any soap for any reason, I use Dr. Bronners or a sea salt bar. The only other thing I use is MSM lotion on my face and coconut oil on my body (for massages – my skin isn’t dry). I might use some tea tree oil on blemish if I get one but I notice it is alot more rare I get one since I quit soap.

Other than that, it is just water only for everyday care. You will be surprise how you don’t need all those expensive products. Your skin will probably be better than when you used them. I still like to keep a basic soap on hand (never know what gross chemical you might accidentally get on your self that you should get off completely with soap).

I just use water. Once in a great while if my face feels oily I’ll use a little natural soap from the HFS. BTW, when you said you ‘started no poo’ for a moment I thought you meant you were constipated.

Hi, I only use water for all over my body, soaps tend to be drying as does hot water. I usually use a rough face cloth everywhere (including my face)as an exfoliator. Jojoba oil (wax) ..about 3-4 drops on my face..a little goes a long way. And that’s it! My skin has improved in softness and tone since starting with pure jojoba oil.

I wash my face only with water. Sometimes I will rub grapes on my face, the not too sweet, very juicy ones (not concord!) it works magic on blemishes. If my skin feels dry I will use a tiny bit of coconut oil.

    Greenie, lol thats funny!

I also only use water and sometimes a washcloth, and i use coconut oil too! it is great, sometimes i put on a bunch at night and in the morning my skin tone/blemishes even out. I stopped using soap as i went no poo too because i noticed the soap was causing a lot of excess oil production in my skin and when i stopped the over production stopped.

Using grapes sounds very interesting. When i’m eating grapes i’ll bite one in half and just scrub my teeth with it because i get this urge to do so. I think I’ll try it on my face tonight thanks to morningtheft!

  • Hehehe! Yes Greenie, I do get a lot of that reaction when I say I started no poo. I guess just like my hair, the skin of my face may will start detoxifying ie producing excess sebum. I’ll try to resist the urge to wash it with a harsh soap. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

  • Ok I’m totally new to this all raw so no poo. You just use water and thats it! Please explain I need more info.

  • Grapefruit peel works great for me.

  • Rawmomma – That’s right, just water! It really is amazing. No shampoo, no face or body soap. What I do is take a loofa (sp?) and rub my skin really well (including my face), and I use only water. When it comes to my hair, I scrub REALLY well with my nails and really get in there to make sure any debris or whatever is out.

As far as cleaning out the ears… I’ve learned recently about these things called Ear Candles (at least I think thats what they’re called?). You don’t have to use any more Q-tips, instead you do this ear candle thing 2-3 times a year and it extracts all the gunk build-up in your ears. My cousins told me about it, and they told me that their neighbor was about to get a hearing aid—but they tried this method and they no longer nead the hearing aid!

As far as shaving, I use coconut oil… its GREAT.
