Where can I eat out in NYC?

AziahAziah Raw Newbie

I am travelling with the kids to NYC in the beginning of December and I need some restaurants I can eat at. I could get by at non-raw but my kids are allergic to everything under the sun so I need specifically raw for them. Can anyone make any recommendations? I already know about Caravan of Dreams. We will need to eat out breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are staying in Times Square (thanks to hotel points) and will be seeing Wintuk, going to Central Square and going to FAO…to give you an idea of locations we will be at.

Thanks so much! I am so nervous about this! I can only bring so much food with me.

BTW – if anyone has any recommendations for other things to check out with a 3 and 4yo please let me know!

Pure Food and Wine comes to mind. Are you near there?

There is a Whole Foods there, and if I remember it wasn’t too hard to get to. Maybe a 5 minute taxi ride from Times square.

Go to Central Park, you can check out the zoo or get/bring something to eat and hang out on the grass for a bit. Natural Science Museum is up there too! Depeding on what days you are there, look for market in Union Square(local harvest site may have a link).

I hope you and the kids have fun :)

  • Aziah, one of my favorite raw places in nyc is Jubbs (508 East 12th street, btwn ave A and B, in East Village) it is more of a take out cafe, then there is Quintessence ( 263 E10th st, btwn ave A and 1st ave, phone (646) 654-1823) thats a restaurant and u will need a reservation, or u can order a take out. Pure restaurat is great too, a bit pricey though especially if u r feeding the whole family, but they do have a separate cafe/juice bar thats open only for lunch, and its more affordable and less upscale, the address is 54 Irving plaza, phone is 212 477 1010. There is also Bonobo’s cafe/restaurant 18 E 23rd St New York, NY 10010 – (212) 505-1200. Also tons of health food stores, if u need their locations let me know. Enjoy

yelp: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=&ns=1&rpp=... will give you lists of everything in your area if you want and you can check out all that NY has to offer to your specificity like toy stores and raw restaurants.

Happy Cow is also great: http://www.happycow.net/

We were in NYC in December last year and my son was 3 1/2 then. We took him to FAO and to the Toys R Us in Times Square and for us it was way too crowded. I most enjoyed our time in Central Park and taking him to the museum of Natural HIstory on the upper west side. There is also a children’s museum: http://www.yelp.com/biz/childrens-museum-of-man…:NaxqY6Q81FhWl7gMqPIbVw/query:children%27s%20museum We didn’t see it because last year it was under construction.

And remember to bundle up and bring your travel strollers! There is so much to see, walking, doing and we got freezing cold ice, snow and wind. I loved every minute if it!! Have fun!

  • On a recent visit to NYC I had one of the best experiences at Quintessence and an even better one at Pure Food and Wine. The owners of Pure also have a small cafe/juice bar around the corner called Pure juice and Take-away. Enjoy!

  • There is also Freefoods on 18 west 45th by the other chef that opened Pure Food and Wine, (gotten good word) and RawSoul which is way uptown if you get up there.and I have to add my nod to pure food and wine Takeaway (the cafe) on 17th,yummy.Also, right up the block is a great fresh little place that recently became raw,Sal Anthony’s.Have a great time! check out yelp .com for really good reviews on everything nyc.

  • Bonobos is reasonably priced. Also, Pure Food and Wine- Take away is great. You can get almond milk and cereal to eat at the hotel.

    There is always salad.

don’t forget to look up health food stores, etc. breakfasts can be raw bars and/or fruit from a health food store. you may find a juice car as well.

don’t worry you are going to one of the most raw friendly places on earth. :-)
