Are you midcycle? Could it be an increase in cervical mucus that occurs with ovulation?

  • I’m 17 and haven’t gotten a period yet.

Aren’t there raw foodists who don’t get a period? If so… then, maybe you don’t get one… but you are fertile. If on a regular cycle, the “egg-white” mucus happens once a month about the time basal temperature goes up (i.e. ovulation)... this mucus is a sign of fertile day.

  • If I did have candida how would I get rid of it?

  • As the diet changes, the white mucus (candida) will exit out of the body. Garlic is very anti-parasitic. Fresh garlic in salads. Although it changes the taste of the veggie juice 1 – 5 cloves of garlic in 16 oz of juice 2 -3 times a day is a big plus. Start small 1 clove and work your way up over time. You also get rid of it each time you have a fast day, not eating sugar, breads, white foods, etc. Youre’ making progress. Also drinking 1 qt to 1 gallon a day of red raspberry tea (with a tiny tiny pinch of green stevia), cool tea, is God’s gift to women regarding female organs, hormones, pregnancy, etc.

  • I often get it if I eat something non-raw the night before. Which doesn’t surprise me in the least.

White, smooth discharge does not indicate that something is wrong with you. I was discussing this very thing with my first female OB/GYN who said “A vagina and not an apple pie,” meaning it does what a vagina does and not what we wish it would.

Barring an infection or candida, discharge is called smegma. It is a natural vaginal secretion and something would be wrong with you if you didn’t have it. Smegma is usually either white or clear or a combination of both. It does have a distinct odor and that is the way it is suppose to be (reminder: your vagina is not an apple pie). The way it appears at any given time of the month depends on where you are in your cycle and if you are fertile or not.

A natural birth control method is based on examination of smegma. At your more fertile times of the month, midway between your periods, smegma is slick and forms a highway that sperm can use to help make their way to the egg. In the “touch method” of birth control, which often is used with the rhythm method, smegma is placed between the thumb and opposing finger for examination. When you are fertile, the smegma will stretch between the two fingers, which demonstrates how it forms the highway or slide that assists sperm in making their way to your egg. In your non-fertile phase, smegma between your thumb and opposing finger does not stretch and instead separates. This is because your egg is not ready to be fertilized and therefore no need for the smegma to assist the sperm. Like other forms of birth control, this is not 100% accurate and has a higher failure rate than birth control pills or condoms.

Other than “remember to keep your legs closed,” you have just read the sum of Catholic sex education that I learned when I was younger. According to the church, this was the only aceptable form of birth control.

  • I am not sexually active andthere is no odor to this discharge.I’m confused. Isn’t Candida something people try to eliminate and isn’t it unhealthy? If this is vaginal or cervical mucus, but I have not been bleeding does this count as a period? Is it very good or very bad?
    ...confused …very confused…

If there is no blood then it isn’t your period. Your vagina is self-lubricating. It will always be moist and there will be what most people call discharge present. That is a natural function that begins to happen when you reach an age where you could become fertile or you are fertile. The presence of a lubricant is not an indication that something is wrong.

You may also have a yeast infection, which is candida, which people do try to get rid of. You will not be able to get rid of natural lubrication. An overgrowth of yeast often appears as a whitish, thick mucous which has a texture like cottage cheese. It is more clumpy than smegma is during your non-fertile times.

If you have yeast overgrowth, you will also have other symptoms including but not limited to: vaginal itching (which can get quite severe), a warm discomfort when urinating, itchiness around your anal opening, small bumps and/or itching inside your mouth, and cravings for sugar. If you have cravings for sugar, you might just have a sweet tooth so that isn’t proof you have a yeast overgrowth. Candida can overgrow in any moist and warm opening in your body, including your rectum, mouth and in rare instances even your nose and throat.

Here is a link for a saliva test that is suppose to help you determine if you have an excess of yeast: http://www.ninazu.com/ests1.html. If you have candida, many people chose to do a candida cleanse or take other action, such as visit a doctor. I am not a doctor but if I have or think I have a yeast infection, I always just take about 15 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract in water 3 times a day for one to two weeks. This is a natural remedy and works fine for most people but that is no guarantee it works for everyone. Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) is a anti-microbal product that kills a wide variety of bacteria, fungi, etc. It tastes very bitter and many people prefer taking it in orange juice instead. You can get it at most health food stores and a little goes a long way and it will store for quite some time. The concentrate is a thick, clear liquid. GSE is non-toxic and, if you choose to take it, I am unaware of any side effects other than the bitter taste. I actually spent a good deal of time trying to learn about GSE some months ago when my son’s wife, who was pregnant, had a systemic fungus which was driving her crazy. The doctor said it could only be cured by prescription but the prescription was dangerous to the baby so she had to live with the fungus until she gave birth. The GSE got rid of it completely.

Candida feeds on sugars and alcohol. If you need to treat yourself for candida, it would be a good idea to avoid as much of these as possible during treatment.

I hope this was helpful to you. You could also google candida and learn more about what it is, adn read up on GSE. As your body matures, it changes in ways you don’t expect and unfortunately we don’t come with a manual. There is an excellent book out there for women of all ages called “Our Bodies, Ourselves.” I just bought it for my 13-year old niece so she would always have a reference guide about her body, especially if she felt uncomfortable about talking to someone else with her questions. This book has been updated for many years but was written some time ago as an owner’s guide for women about their bodies. It deals with all phases of a woman’s life and would probably answer most things a young woman would want to know. It has many detailed drawings so you can visualize and understand how your body works. If you can’t buy a copy, you should be able to get it at your local library. Some of the book is available online. Here is a link to section on understanding what will happen when you begin to menustrate and other information you might find helpful: http://www.ourbodiesourselves.org/book/chapter….
