Who eats mostly fruit?

So im back on the raw eating…and I find myself wanting to eat fruit most of the time, maybe 1/4 nuts (no more since they’re fattening) but not many veggies, since salad without chicken isn’t appetizing lol.

what about you guys?

I am mostly a fruitarian (though fasting right now)

I love fruit. It is my natural food. It is the only raw food that I crave.

i find it’s what i crave too. although i do enjoy other meals, fruit is the most nourishing for me. it’s over 50% of what i eat.

  • I looove it. My diet is pretty much all from fruit, except a little nuts and greens. Plus, I just started reading 80/10/10, (got it in the mail today!) and have already learned a ton about the benefits of fruit. It is what we are designed to eat! So far, after eating more fruit less fat, my workout intensity has soared. I think the reason we crave fruit is simple: our bodies know what they want and need. :)

  • mmmmmm I love some nice, simple fruit. I absolutely love it. I don’t think there is anything that tastes better in this world than fruit. I need to live some where with an abundance of local fruit all year round. A place where I can grow my fruit, all year round. That is ideal for me :)

  • haha yeah I was just telling my brother that a little earlier! lOl hmm. so I was just reading in another post by cavsman about hybridized fruits, and now I’m a little worried! But I don’t think I could give up my nanners, though!

bananas are the one thing I crave more than anything else so I eat them.. alot!

  • MOTHMOTH Raw Newbie

I crave bananas a lot too!

  • hehe gotta love ‘em! :)

  • I mostly eat fruit also and for awhile craved bananas ALL the time. I ate them so much I got sick of ‘em and gravitating towards other fruit. Amazing how the body knows when to tell you, “that’s enough of that… ohhh how about this?!?” Gotta love it. :)

  • I eat loads of fruit. Love it, love it. The only problem I find is that it doesn’t keep me full for very long.

  • I agree with chelsey09 – ever since adopting an 80/10/10 approach to my diet and eating lots of fruit and green smoothies made with fruit, my workout intensity has gone through the roof! I almost cannot exhaust myself, even with 2 hour workouts. Plus, I need substantially less sleep and still feel great. I used to firmly believe I needed 9 hours of sleep every night; now I do great on 6. I had no idea I would experience these benefits, but feeling this good is motivation enough to keep going. If only I can get my husband to see the light! He only eats maybe 1 or 2 servings of fruit a day…but I guess that’s better than many people.

  • If I could live eating fruit and nuts only, I would, but I have found I don’t look so great when I just eat fruit (sallow skin color). I think the sugar is too much for me. Salads can be very tasty mixed with fruit – like spinach with apples, pecans and raisins, or grated carrot and pinnaple salad. It tastes like a fruit salad but it gives you the nutriets of the vegetables too.

Here is my thing with salads…and I’m just sharing my own experience with them. I cannot enjoy a salad unless I put a fatty oil on it (I no longer use oils) or I cover it in sweet fruit. Eating greens on their own (with the exception of maybe romaine) just tastes unappealing to me.

I feel like: why am I eating something that I have to DOCTOR UP just to enjoy?

At least with fruit: it’s already ready for me to eat; no alteration necessary.

Does anyone else have a hard time devouring greens? If I put the fat and fruit on them I love it. But I don’t use overt fats and I feel like I might as well just eat the fruit.

Romaine actually tastes sweet to me, which is probably why I can tolerate that plain.

Ah, yes fruit!!! Love it. Melons, berries, mangoes, oranges, apples, bananas yum yum yum!!!!!Avocados too, which are technically a fruit I guess. I don’t really like veggies…oh well (: My mom gets concerned that I am not eating balanced, but I feel fine…I do love green smoothies, though. Go fruit!!!

  • MOTH: agreed. I’ve recently starting following the 811 diet, but am really having trouble with getting in my greens! For the same reason as you; I don’t like them plain. Now I’ve given up oils and vinegar, (bubye balsamic vinagrette!) and they just sound dry and plain to me. blah. I spose I could start making my own dressings, but what a pain in the butt!! But yaa I feel ya. How important is it to get your greens in everyday anyways?? any opinions??

  • I’m with MOTH on the salad thing – it bothers me that to eat a salad I have to pour something over it and distribute it through, and then I often end up consuming too much of that very thing I poured over it. I’m also not eating overt fats, salt, garlic, onions, agave or condiments, which greatly limits most salad dressing recipes. I have not even attempted to make a salad dressing out of things like blending celery with mango – I’d rather just eat the celery and mango.

I get my greens through green smoothies. I know Victoria Boutenko mentions enjoying greens sprinkled just with lemon, but I’m not there yet!!!

  • haha ya MicheleSS, 811 makes eating friggin salads just a little more difficult!! grr. I’m thinking green smoothies is how I’m gonna have to get them in..

  • wrap bananas in romaine leaves…..chop mango and mix with well shredded romaine…...make smoothies – orange juice and romaine/celery…banana romaine/celery….

eventually , some folk just get used to eating it plain…until that time, do whatever you must to just ‘get it in’ :o)

  • chelsey09: Have you read Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko? Adding greens, and lot of them, to my diet has added tremendously to my energy level, fitness and muscularity, and regularity (yeah, that kind of regularity). In my opinion, and tested by my day-to-day life, following the 811rv plan is greatly enhanced by consuming green smoothies. Almost every day I make at least one large green smoothie.

Typical green smoothie: half to full bunch of kale, 2-3 bananas, 2-3 peaches, handful of berries, drizzle of lemon, water

And any combination of the above depending on the season, my mood, budget, etc. I also make green smoothies with non-sweet fruit such as tomatoes, cucumbers and red bell peppers, etc.

  • no I haven’t read that, but I am always looking for a good read, so I’ll have to try it! But added energy sounds really good to me right now, as I’ve recently been trying to up my workouts considerably.. When I very first went raw,(not too long ago!) I tried making green smoothies, but only a couple times when I could get the right taste to ‘em. But I’m gonna give them a go again starting tomorrow! And thanks for the recommendations!

And I really like those ideas too, el-bo! Bananas in romaine leaves? Mmmm… bananas are already staple, so sounds good to me! :)

  • MOTHMOTH Raw Newbie

El-bo – do you know of any long-term 811’ers who eat ONLY FRUIT, no salads?

Or are salads insanely essential to success long-term with 811?

  • if you eat no greens, you are a fruitarian….fruitarian and 811 are very different…doug recommends at least 2-6% of calories per day of greens for minerals…if you miss for a period there won’t be any problems

  • 90% of my daily caloric intake comes from fruit! To answer your question Moth, Richard Blackman only eats fruit and has been doing so for a number of years and he looks fantastic!

  • karmygirl, how long have you been doing that? and did you lose weight in the duration?
