Why did you choose the raw veganism path?

What motivated you to begin? Were it health issues, a wish to perfect oneself, ideological reasons like animal rights? I know my reasons were a mix of everything. I know many non-raw vegans abstain from eating animal products because they believe animals should not be treated as a simple commodity. Does the same apply to raw vegans?

    That is a great question.

I think it was a combination for me: a bit of getting back to nature with a little going back to childhood. A raw diet is pretty close to what I ate on long summer days when I was growing up.

  • Wish I had eaten more raw foods in my childhood :) But I still think I understand what you mean - there is a sense of connection with nature when eating raw food.

Yes. It has improved my health as well, so that's an added bonus. I think nature might have the right idea.

I want to improve my health. This goes together with a desire to slow the aging process. As I'm approaching fifty, I'm hoping to avoid the aches and pains and other health crisis the seem to be inevitable for those eating SAD. I've been in transition for a few years. I focus on fruits, juices, green smoothies and salads. I'm an older parent of two young children. I'm known by the neighborhood kids as the dad that will play with the children even though there are other dads a decade or more younger than I.

Even though I've been aware of the atrocities in the animal agribusiness, I haven't been influenced by that other than to know that even if there was a good reason to eat meat, modern ag would not be a healthy source of it. Plus, that system, like so many systems, has been operating "out of balance". At this point, the only likely way it will change is through complete collapse. It's best to minimise your dependence on it as that re-balancing takes place.

Hi Murray. Welcome to the forum!

I agree completely about the modern agriculture business. Maltreatment of animals isn't just bad for them, it also leads to a much lower quality of meat for those who eat it. The industry has moved so far away from what is healthy.

Keep being that informed dad that gets outside and plays :)
