Why I am vegan...

www.meat.org
Don’t watch the video if you just ate…

Comments

  • raw vegan but will not be able to watch this, huge animal lover. But I am sure the average food consumer should see it.

  • I sent the link to a few people who flat out refused to watch it because they didn’t want to feel bad about loving meat. Another watched it and said, “Well I guess they might want to start using painkillers ahahahahahhaha.” I was less than impressed…

  • “did not want to feel bad about loving meat” Hmmm. that says so much to me. .Please keep in mind I have the most loving meat eating boyfriend. I think some people get it and then…. so hard for me to really comment all I know is I cannot watc it and wish certain people would,my boyfriend included. One day maybe things will change…....?

What did you expect from your friend by shoving it in his face, kathyrn? I don’t eat meat either, but wow I’d be a bit pissed at someone being self-righteous. However, to tell you the truth, I can’t stop laughing at his comment, hahaha.

  • I am vegan, but many family members and friends are meat eaters. Sometimes I feel like I end up “lecturing” when I am just trying to share info, esp. to my parents. My SAD eating bf has been much more open and eats vegan and raw with me often. When he craves meat, I will make him “meatless riblets” (vegan, not raw) or some other meat substitute, and he is happy with that. After we watched “Fast Food Nation” he has cut out more meat from his diet on his own because he is grossed out by it. “There is shit in the meat!!!”

  • I think a little meat is okay. But people who are consumed by it, and it because the sole nutrition (hardly any) in their diet, that’s just sick, ignorant, and ignorant. Though the guys comment is hilarious.

  • As someone who has vasalated between vegetarian/practically vegan/SAD eater/back to vegitarian, and now raw (new to raw): I can understand why some people are turned off by vegetarians and/or vegans who promote their lifestyle in a condescending manner. I also have had vegan friends who tout the benefits without being self rightous, and I appreciated that. Once I went to a vegan potluck to which I brought a nice vegan dish to share despite the fact that I was eating fish and poultry at the time, because I enjoy any tasty healthy food. But whether they were aware or not of my personal diet, several people made comments about how vegetarianism was useless and if you’re not all vegan then you’re a cruel, senseless person. It is situations like this that make others look at vegans as if they are way out of the mainstream- no one even flinches if you say you’re vegetarian anymore. I do think it’s fine if you want to share information, and those who choose to ignore it are making that choice. As long as you don’t alienate people in the process or assume they are without compassion if they eat differently; then you have done what you can to lead by example by showing compassion to both humans and animals. The world changes one person at a time- if I hadn’t gone to a raw restaurant with a vegan friend- I wouldn’t be raw now! But so glad I am!

  • Who said I was being condescending about it? Alix1962, you don’t even know the context… I was studying with a group of people (obv. not doing all THAT much studying if I was websurfing), and they wanted to know why I had such a shocked look on my face all of the sudden.
I’ve honestly had more people try to “convert” me back to meat eating than anything… I actually avoid telling people my diet as long as posible because it tends to bring out a negative attitude in others…

  • katherynintheraw- When I said condescending I was not referring to you, but just to situations or comments that I and others I know have experienced. I also find it frustrating when others refuse to learn facts because they are literally afraid to know the truth, or will automatically assume that they will disagree with something just because their previously held belief may contradict it. This happens in politics alot, too. I told my husband, who eats meat, that I’m going to have him watch “Meet your Meat” on youtube. I know he is not going to stop eating meat (though he’s happy to eat organic or kosher when available/affordable); but if he’s going to eat it, he should at least know the truth about it. Will report back the reaction…

  • No no… i didn’t mean you, rawrach lol Alix1962 just hit a soft spot by asking me what I expected to hear. It seems like (at least where I live) that it’s ok to be proud of eating meat, but absolutely not OK to be proud of being vegan.

I didn’t watch that link because I’ve seen what animals go through, but I’d like to thank you for being a vegan. I’m a vegan, too. I’ve read that as a vegan, we save about 32 animals a year from torturous, inhumane condition and death.

  • Rawvoice, how I wish people who are so unaware would realize that.

  • I sent this video to my dad who responded “I wonder how much of this is in the US”. His typical head in the sand response. I’m not trying to change his eating habits, but maybe make him more aware of his choices. Are there any other sites or info which could prove that this is in ‘his backyard’ and not some far away country as he thinks??

Yeah, raw mama, I’ve heard skeptics say the same thing about those types of videos, like, “Oh, this probably isn’t in the US…” but in the video I just watched (I did watch it and I internally puked) it did seem like familiar territory. I just wish there was a way to prove it.

I just watched this video and so glad that I did. My boyfriend had mentioned things like this to me but I had never seen it before. Extremely disturbing. I went raw/veg for health reason and never really payed much attention to the abuse that animals endure. If anything, this has certainly pushed me further away from meat. YUK! I just sent this to my boyfriend (meat eater) because he told me in the past that his reason for attempting changes in his diet would be due to animal cruelty. I think he will be happy I sent this to him. Thanks for the video!!
