He's going to need something a little more than that to keep him warm I would think. How about some sort of bars with coconut oil or nuts as the base (easy to eat but supply some fat to keep warm and give energy)?
Hi Rawfreakfr,
Winter is the best time to go camping. There are no bugs, things stay clean and the bears are all asleep.
I camp dureing the winter time both in Ontario and in the mountains of BC, though I haven't since going raw this winter, all the winter camping I've done till now has been veg though. If I where makeing a meal plan I'd go with lots of nuts and dried fruit and try to keep the fats high as possible. For the main meals I'd try soups with crackers or raw bread or a chile. Both of whitch can be made from dry ingredients and rehydrated and warmed you'll need a coffee thermometer. When I'm out in the cold for a few days at a time I tend to eat constantly and keep a bag of snacks (energy balls, nuts and dried fruit) inside my ski jacket where they stay thawed out. Warm drinks are a must as it's easy to get dehydrated. Why not try a few recepies at home first and see what's easyest and works best for your son.
Last tip, he should bring a spare well labled Nalgene bottle to pee in at night so he wont have to get out of the sleeping bag, trust me on this one it's a life saver ;)
Let us know how he gets on,
Betty
Thanks blueyz and Betty. Great suggestions! I found a recent recipe addition of "baked" apples, and found a RAW breakfast food (Chia Goodness). As well, he can have Lara Bars since I have a bunch of them.
