Hey Omshanti! Yerba Mate has “natural caffeine” in it, and unfortunately it is not raw. I tried to use the chocolate flavored one in replacement for coffee, but found that I actually had a much STRONGER reaction to the yerba mate.
I drink this brewed with Pau D’Arco and love it. I am extremely sensitive to caffeine and this doesn’t bother me. I can’t remember the specifics but it doesn’t have the same type of caffeine as coffee and it isn’t supposed to be addictive. So far I haven’t had a problem with it and it is supposed to be very high in antiox’s. Mixed with Pau D’Arco- a good immune stimulator.
Mate is from Brasil and has a natural caffeine on it like green tea.We drink it there all the time and with lemon juice is absolutly delicious! Also Pau d’arco is from a brazilian tree called Ipe Roxo.
Hi all! I enjoy drinking tea, in fact, I had a cup of yerba mate today. It does contain some caffeine, not certain the percentage. Here is some info:
Under the section: Chemical composition and properties
“Mate products are sometimes marketed as “caffeine-free” alternatives to coffee and tea, and said to have fewer negative effects. This is often based on a claim that the primary active xanthine in mate is “mateine”, erroneously said to be a stereoisomer of caffeine (as it is not chemically possible for caffeine to have a stereoisomer). “Mateine” is an official synonym of caffeine in the chemical databases. [12] Researchers at Florida International University in Miami have found that yerba mate does contain caffeine, but some people seem to tolerate a mate drink better than coffee or tea. This is expected since mate contains different chemicals (other than caffeine) from tea or coffee.” -
