I am not a huge fan of onions, so I prefer to use only 1/4 cup and add the onion to the dressing ingredients in the blender.

I also sometimes throw the broccoli in the dehydrator for a while before I mix it with the other ingredients, just to soften it up a little.

Oh man, I totally thought people here were being overly enthusiastic about how awesome this salad really is. The dressing tastes so amazing, it is totally yummy and I'm sure many people still on the SAD diet would love it, too. Side note: I used almonds instead of cashews, and used pine nuts instead of sunflower seeds and it was totally fabulous. A+++

Hey there! LOove this recipe! I can't for some reason, read the ingredients or directions though and would like to give to a friend! I leave out the onions, because I have to agree, that is way too many onions, in fact, I would say the 1/4 c is too, imo! But it's the BEST!!!!!

You guys are life savers! I have yet to be disappointed by a recipe, and this was another one added to my favorites. The men in my family aren't complaining at all! :P

I finally made this over the weekend, and it was fantastic! I used pine nuts instead of cashews in the dressing, and it work just fine. I also added a bit more water than called for (1/2 c. instead of 1/4 c.), based on the comments of others. It was still very thick, and worked beautifully. My friend thought this was so yummy too. I can see bringing this to a picnic or BBQ this summer. Thanks for the great recipe!!

Broccoli Salad

This is excellent. My daddy used to buy this broccoli salad at the market deli all the time thinking he was being healthy. I told him he couldn't buy it anymore and he was crestfallen.

But no more! I made this for him this weekend and he was so surprised and excited! He loved it.

I did add vegetarian bacun bits to it so it would really be like the one he used to buy. But I think cut up pieces of olive oil coated dulse strips might also be nice in it for a smokey salty taste to replace the bacon.

I also didn't have any cashews so I had to use brazil nuts and pecans.

by the way you can use any kind of nuts or seeds. I've tried a different variety and loved every one!

I made this again and just used Sunflower seeds in the dressing instead of nuts... worked out really well - i actually liked it a lot! I don't think this salad tastes like bacon at all - which isn't a bad thing for me. It definitely tastes like the real deal though - just minus the cheese and bacon. Definitely a keeper! Everyone loves it!

Had this for dinner tonight (much less sweet, since I don't love sweet) and it is fabulous. Thanks so much for a great recipe that will be made time and again.

This was the best broccoli salad I have ever had!!! I just started raw food (2 weeks now) and have come across some not so great stuff and started wondering if this was for me! Then I tried this recipe and it changed my mind and got me thinking I can do this and enjoy what I eat!! I substituted the cashews for almonds and sunflower seeds for pine nuts since that is what I had on hand and it was amazing!!

I just bought all of the ingredients today to make this. Very nice, but think it would have been better with less vinegar and maybe more water. Thanks for sharing!

This recipe is supreme! I recommend using sweet white onions so that the flavors blend better.

This is one of my favorites. I leave out the onion and halve the agave, and add a dash of nama shoyu and olive oil. The dressing is good on everything.

I make this ALL THE TIME!! I absolutely love it!! The only thing I do differently is add some sprouted: adzuki beans, garbanzo beans, green peas, and lentils. Amazing! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

When people use cranberries, do you use whole, undehydrated cranberries or something like craisins??? And are raisins and craisins really raw? Just a question...also wondered about currants being raw? Thanks, want to make this tonight! :)

My SAD husband liked this. That's a big victory. I haven't tried it yet because I'm on the master cleanse, but I can't wait!
