Electrolytes and intestional lubrication, what more could you ask for?
1 cup young thai coconut water
¼ cup aloe vera juice (made from leaf or bought raw)
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon raw honey or raw agave nectar
handful of ice
BLEND all ingredients together!!! Ice is optional. I like ice cold drinks, some don’t because it “kills digestive fire” but I really love an ice cold experience.
Thank you CLR! I have always read to scoop the insides out like you do. I can't wait to start growing it. Do you grow your own? I use to forage for it as a kid and play doctor-medicine-man with it, LOL, don't ask. I can't wait to do it again... at, ek. 26. WooHoo. It is so wonderful for digestsion which is why I started using it. I think anyone with digestive issues, especially GERD, should try it and see how it works for them. Thank you again, hugs
Just re-read the comments and thought I'd add;
I use about a 1-2 inch piece and find that enough, chop it off, cut off the 'green' so you are left with oozy stinky gel and whop it in the blender, wrap rest up in clingfilm, store in fridge.
I have fresh leaves from the plant and use it exactly as you describe above, easy peasy and definitely 'lubricating' :o)
If new to aloe (esp fresh) exercise caution. Its fine & great for you but if sensitive might find it very lubricating! If so, just build up slow. I have a very slow digestive system and it def works on me.
If you use your own the biggest/oldest leaves have the most potency and are the most beneficial, best to let young leaves mature but can still use if you need to.
Sueko - good question. I am new to aloe, just recently started using it. I have never tried blending it. I have always read of people scooping out the insides and using them that way. The problem is I can't find any organic aloe leaves right now. The store that carried them stopped carrying them. I'm going to start growing it myself though and use it that way. For now I am using the raw juice formula that I bought : ) If anyone comes across this and uses aloe leaf, please give us some feedback!
Couldn't you just throw an aloe leaf in the blender rather than juice it? Seems a lot simpler, especially if you have a Vitamix, Blendtec etc.
Your welcome, raw-k on! Ps. I prefer mine chilled. I store my coconuts in the fridge, I love cold coconut water. Room temp aloe just doesn't do it for me so I stick that in the fridge too. Let me know how you like it when you're able to try it!
Hi. I bought mine at a local organic co-op, Rainbow Grocery, in San Francisco. They only carried 1 raw brand. It's pretty hard to find. I did search the web and found where you can buy it online. Not sure if you order stuff online but you can go to: http://www.herbalremedies.com/aloe-vera-juice.html
I hope that link posts in comments! This is the brand I bought : ) I am going to have to start growing it myself so I can use it fresh from the leaf... Rainbow stopped carrying them!!!
where do you find raw aloe vera juice? i've hit all the local health food stores and i don't think i've seen any. but this sounds really good, especially as a post-workout drink.
