Prickly Pear Passion Smoothie
This is the most beautiful color and it tastes just as great! It’s prickly pear season and there are thousands of them on our place. I just hope they don’t get ripe at the same time!
8 small ripe prickly pears (purple) or 4 large
1½ cup water
3 ripe
bananas
1 teaspoon raw agave nectar
Holding them with tongs, cut the ends off the prickly pears and slightly cut them lengthwise, not all the way through. Filet them like a fish and put the flesh in the blender. Add the water and blend. Pour the contents through a strainer into a bowl. Mash and swish the contents remaining in the strainer until you extract all the juice. Add this back into the blender with 3 bananas and sweetener of choice, I used agave nectar. Blend and enjoy!
note: I used my nut mylk bag the second time I made this. It was much easier to separate the juice from the seeds, but the pulp was also separated. My nut mylk bag is now hot pink! Be sure there aren’t any tiny thorns in this.

I made some powder from mesquite beans in a coffee mill. I dried them in the sun first. I put some of the beans in a glass jar with a lid and a few weeks later, it was also full of bugs and their droppings. I doubt that I'll do that again! I don't know how the companies who sell the meal get rid of the bugs...or do they?!

123 I live in New Mexico and was wondering about mesquite growing around here instead of getting the expensive mesquite powder how do you make the powder?

If you lived close to me, I'd let you come get it by the bushel! I'll have plenty of mesquite beans too. Mesquite meal is $15 a pound on the Internet! I'm going to freeze the juice from the prickly pears for future use. It will take me forever to peel them all. I can't stand to waste them. If you do buy prickly pears, be aware that they over-ripen very quickly. Put them in the fridge if you don't get to them right away.

That's spectacular!

I can't wait to make this for my Fabulous Teenage Daughter. She's been begging me to buy prickly pear, but not knowing what to do with it.
