Servings:
Serves 1-2I came up with this green potion to fight off a cold, using ingredients that have helped me in the past.
Ingredients:
1 Parsnip
1 Big handful of baby spinach
1 large clove of garlic, best to take the vein
out
½ ginger root, peeled
.3 cucumber
2 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tablespoon Raw local
honey
.4 teaspoon sea or celtic salt
2 dash hot pepper flakes
1 dash cayenne pepper, (optional)
1 handful of pine
nuts
water
Preparation:
Chop up the parsnip, cucumber, garlic & ginger root. Throw everything into the blender. Add more or less water depending on how you want your thickness. I wanted to drink a smoothie so I used about a couple cups of water.
Use the cayenne pepper sparingly or omit if you prefer not to have your drink a bit hot.

So this morning I feel great. I went out and did my usual 5.5 mile run in the bitter cold and felt strong. I do think garlic is a wonderful remedy to keep away those winter colds....and I think being raw is also another reason I felt fine when I woke up.
Yeah a cold soup would be good too

Don't have any parsnips on hand, but can't wait to try it tomorrow. I bet that this would be great as a cold soup.

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I didn't peel the cucumber or parsnip in order to get the full nutritional value and fiber.

I came home with my throat a little scratchy and I feel like I'm fighting a cold. In the past I sometimes have made this horrible garlic tea that I could barely drink and usually upset my stomach. This was actually a nice tasting smoothie. The parsnip gave it that winter touch. You could vary this a lot with carrots in lieu of parsnips or perhaps adding an avocado for even a heavier consistency. I have usually had great luck at fighting colds with raw garlic and raw honey. This seemed like a nice remedy and I'm hoping the spinach will also help me out. I don't know if all this is one big placebo but heck, my throat is already feeling better and I drank mine about an hour ago!
