Makes a large batch for storing in an airtight container

Lovely light textured chips/crisps. Keep them in larger pieces for dipping into a sauce or crumble up and eat like crisps/chips.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup golden flax seed
  • 1 cup buckwheat groats
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric (optional)
  • 1/2 clove garlic
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Preparation

Soak flax seed and buckwheat overnight in a bowl with 4 cups of water.

Next day, transfer a cupful of mixture at a time into the vitamix or blender with 1 cup of water. Blend on high for a few moments and then pour into a large bowl. Repeat the process until all the mixture is finished BUT on the last cupful, add all the herbs and spices, garlic and salt into the blender. Add to the rest of the mixture and mix well.

Pour an amount of the mixture onto a telfex sheet on your dehydrator tray and spread thinly. The mixture should cover about 6-7 trays. Dry at 145 degrees for 3 hours and then turn down to 115 degrees until dry.

I always need to flip the crackers over and peel back the teflex to get them completely dry. I find it useful to put them in the dryer at 8pm and then turn the dryer down at 11pm to dry overnight. In the morning I do the flipping and by lunchtime they are dry.

Those look really good. Do you know another spice that could substitute for cumin? This chip looks like it would be interesting with black lentils in it- but I don’t know i they would get too hard. I like the thinness of these.

Yes, use whatever are your favourite spices, these are mine, I like a kind of pizza flavour. Not sure about the black lentils though, I’d be more inclined to use them to make the dip!

Oh, another kind of chip for me to try! Thanks! I am always wanting to experiment with chips in my dehydrator!
