A date with a banana

24 oz.

I don’t know why I’ve been craving bananas and dates these last few days (yeah they’re really good for me and the baby but they are all I want to eat!) I wouldn’t call this a smoothie, more like a thick milk. Since we’ve had a small shortage of raw almonds in the market I gave in and used cow’s milk. I’m sure it would have been tastier with nut milk though. This filled me right up and baby was even bouncier (is that a word?) after I finished. I guess she liked it too.

Ingredients

  • 5 Majool Dates, Pitted and halved
  • 3 Small Bananas, Broken into peices
  • 1½ cups Milk (Nut or cow), Ice cold
  • 1 Tray of small ice cubes

Preparation

This is how I did it (because my blender is a tad on the weak side.. if you got a vitamix you can just throw it all in and enjoy it faster)

1 Pitted and halved the dates and put them in the blender

2 Added the milk

3 Blended till there were no more chunks

4 Removed the date milk and added all the ice cubes

5 Added the bananas

6 Added the milk back

7 Pulse till ice is pretty broken then blend on high till smooth

  • You can also add cinnamon if you like but I forgot

I made some more tonight for everyone to break their fast with… I added cinnamon this time and it was way better with it than without. I doubled the recipe and added a teaspoon of cinnamon. Everyone thought it was great..

I make banana mylk all the time with just bananas, agave nectar or dates (when I have them) and water. I doubt there would be much taste difference, if any, without milk. It’s quick, easy and great tasting.

Hi Kmom! I think bananas are one of the best things you can eat but I am a little worried about you. Are you able to eat soups that don’t have any sweet fruits in them?

Baby was probably bouncing from all the natural sugars in the dates and banana!Yum, now I’m craving it, too!

I tried this the other day, it was really good. The cinnamon gives it a nice taste.

I make these as treats, sometimes add raw honey and spinach. How lovely of you to post this. The name is by far almost as good as the taste!
