Koka-Kola in the Raw

4 cups

This is my first good attempt at trying to make a Raw Coca-Cola. I had a taste for a 7-11 Coke Slurpee last week and I thought – I really gotta work on the Raw Coke recipe.

My bf said this came pretty close so I posting for you all to enjoy. I plan to improve it by adding some sasaprilla to the recipe -when I can find some! :)

Update: I made this with sassaprilla powder (you can buy at mountainroseherbs.com) and it helps with the bitterness of the kola nut. I also changed the cinammon, added lemon juice and agave nectar and increased the vanilla.

NOTE: This recipe is for home use only. My bf and I sell this for our raw food home business so this is not for commerical sale use! Please respect that! ;)

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon kola nut powder
  • ½ teaspoon sassaprilla powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon cinammon powder
  • 3 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 6 medjool dates, soaked, pits removed
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ cup Plain Kombucha
  • ice as needed - either loose or blended

Preparation

Soak the 6 dates until softer so you can get the pits out.

Blend soak water and dates in blender.

Add 2 cups water to blender or fill with water to 2 cup mark on your blender.

Add kola nut, vanilla and cinnamon, agave lemon and sassaprilla. Blend.

Add Kombucha. Blend lightly. (will get foamy!). Tip: Add the Kombucha right before you serve this.

Add ice if you want it blended in – other wise add when you put in glasses.

If you want it even more “fizzy” add more Kombucha in favor of less water.

For vanilla or cherry coke, add more vanilla extract or cherries/cherry juice.

I am in waiting for my new digital camara so I will take a picture of this next time I make it to post for everyone.

FYI: Kola Nut contains caffeine. The Coke we know of today used to be made naturally with Kola Nut – so this is probalby close to an original natural (but raw) recipe!

The Kola Nut is said to have euphoric and stimulant properites and creates a good mood and energy. It is said to suppress the appetite and is used in Africa as a aphrodisiac.

This is a happy drink! Enjoy!

You can buy Kola Nut Powder from David Wolfes site. www.sunfood.com. It is actually pretty cheap and a little goes a long way.

You are brilliant! I can’t wait to try this. Ps. I am in Redwood City. A friend of mine told me about Raw Rising a month or so ago – I think she is going to order from you two. How awesome to see you here, another local too. Today was beautiful, this weather is amazing!!!
