Wow- look at what my craving started. I am not vegan. I eat raw fish, but I have never liked the taste or texture of meat. Like 123 said, it is all about the flavor. Meat is just a vehicle for the flavor and can be replaced by anything.

I just logged on to let you know that a little of Franks Red Hot (no not raw, but I will make a raw batch) tastes great on carrots!!! That killed my craving for a while, but I did not have to kill a buffalo wing.

Franks Red Hot is made of cayenne red peppers, vinegar, water, salt and garlic powder. I am sure I can make a mostly raw version.

I went vegan for ethical vegans, not because I disliked the taste. So if I can get cruelty-free food that tastes like meat, why not? If you can also avoid the negative karma and health effects of meat, while eating food with similar flavors, why not?

I always think it’s the seasoning, the sauce, the gravy that people crave, not the taste of meat. Texture and the smell of the seasoning are attractive too.

Do you have a recipe for Ranch Dressing?

ok, just because someone may be against eating animal, it doesn’t mean they don’t think it tastes good. The “fake meat” way is just all the yummy and none of the guilt or negativity. And nobody is “pretending to eat meat”. It’s just like Chris S and kathrynintheraw said, we want to have some fun and variation. It’s cool to know that you are having something that is just like(or pretty similar) to meat, but is not going to have any negative health effects (or be hurting any animals.) You know it’s actually going to be healthy for you but still taste great. Because admittedly, some of this stuff gets a little boring and it isn’t always the best tasting. All of these imitations and whatnot are just a way to break it up once in a little while. Plus, we all crave things that are not the best sometimes. Having a healthy option is just a way to keep from breaking from the lifestyle and going crazy. oh, and I get your analogy, btw

Ok, kathrynintheraw. I joined this site the other day because when I was surfing the net about something diet related I found a post on this site about a guy having trouble with the inability to gain weight. Since I went through that and could relate I wanted to post a reply, plus I was bored at the time. Furthermore, I didn’t read through the site to see if it was vegan or not when I joined. All I saw was “goneraw” and since I eat a raw diet I thought I’d just post my comment.
And for the last question, I keep posting on it to answer posts which were directed to me. Except for the one in this particular thread because I just wanted to know about the fake meat thing.
“Because it’s fun” is it? It’s fun to pretend to eat an animal when you’re so against it? That would be like me saying I’m not racist but then painting a white guy to look black and beating the hell out of him then saying because it’s fun but I’m not racist.
lmao, that was a horrible analogy but you get what I’m saying. maybe..

Simple reason mr fist is this. They are good transition foods to aid in going from a life of possibly eating meat to a raw diet. Plus other people who arent raw might try it and like it. It’s the look and feel and flavors of things that can help sometimes. Sure we can all hope to get to that perfect combinations of food we eat and what we drink, but in the meantime might as well have some fun with it.

Out of curiosity, if you guys are so against meat then why do so many vegans want things that resemble and/or taste like meat?
I’d just eat raw meat.

I did not really create a true measurement recipe, but I tweaked the “Fried” Mushrooms that everyone directed me to. I made the original recipe by Karen Knowler first. YUM!! But then I got a wild hair and marinated more mushrooms, and made a batter from soaked flax seeds and some of my dried herbs, blended it. I coated the mushrooms in the “batter” and dehydrated them at 95 until they were crisp. Oh my =D I did the exact same thing with jalepeno slices too!! I have a thing for battered fried foods, and this is just the thing to curb those cravings!! I am imagining the other veggies that I can do this to!! My mouth is very happy right now!

I just thought that I would share for those who have those cravings!

Haha! I was looking all over for this one, thank you Mopoke! Those turned out great, just go easy on the curry, or better yet, do your own seasoning. I find the combination of thyme, oregano and paprika with onions and garlic (go easy with those) is pretty ‘chickeny’. If I had my dehydrator with me I’d try making these myself right now. Good luck!

Raw BBQ Chicken Fingers

Batter Ingredients

2 Cups Carrots
2 Cups Sprouted Lentils
3/4 Cup Orange Juice
1/4 Cup Onion
4 Tablespoons Olive Oil
2 Tablespoons Honey
1 1/2 Tablespoons Curry
1 Tablespoon Poultry Seasoning
2 teaspoons Sea Salt

Instructions

The Raw Version of Imitation Chicken, These are spicier than my Chick-Un Patties, and are delicious served with honey-mustard sauce.

First in a food processor, not a Vita-Mix, process the carrots until diced.

Second, add in all of the other ingredients, then blend until well blended. (These should not be completely smooth, but more grainy looking). Then pour onto a Teflex on some Teflex sheets, which fit on top of a mesh dehydrator screen. Pour into ablong 2×4 mound shapes.

Now, dehydrate at 105 degrees for 10 hours. ( flip half way through if possible)

Notes: These will seem a little soupy before you dehydrate them, just pour them out and try to build them up as much as possible, you don’t want them to be paper thin. It is very important to use the right amount of orange juice.

hmm, I can’t seem to find Alissa Cohen’s raw BBQ wings recipe, it’s a good one… writeeternity has a good recipe on here, that’s derived from it… Orange chicken recipe I believe. Just use lentil sprouts instead, works better, and do your own seasoning…

Well here’s an idea off the top of my head. Get a recipe for nut meat you like or some dried mushrooms (partially rehydrate). If, using nutmeat make into a paste and form into whatever shape you’ll like for eating. For the sauce if you cant find a raw wing sauce. add some cayanne peppers or jalepenos or some nice hot ones. Blend with some vinegar and strain out the pulp. Let it age for about a week for the flavor to really develop. You probably could use it right away but I’m not sure if it would be as potent. Mix some flax oil and salt with a bit of your sauce to make a coating and toss your meat stuff in it. Well I hope that makes some sense. Have it :).

I am really craving the taste of buffalo wings. I had a raw recipe, but lost it. I attepmted to google one, but no luck.
