Topic: Being Raw / Life Worth Living

I go to Brazil almost every year and it is wonderful. The fruit tastes so much better and is so cheap! The avocados are literally three times the size of one here. Living is inexpensive, as is a raw diet. However, while fruits and veggies are abundant, items like almond butter, nut milk, etc…may be harder to find. If you go there with some money you earned here it should be fun! The natives are so friendly and you can always teach English.

Topic: Being Raw / Life Worth Living

I wouldn’t choose to live anywhere but the U.S. I am not aware of tropical societies with uncorrupt governments. As far as I know, U.S. citizens have the most freedom, the most choices.

I am in 3 garden clubs, but you can bet that I wouldn’t want to farm all day and eat only what came off my land. I don’t find national Geographic tribes too glamorous.

Someone had to say these things.

Topic: Being Raw / IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE A RAW VEGAN IF YOU DONT EAT ENOUGH FRUTI?

when we eat cooked food, we aint getting the ‘whole’ package. cooked food is no longer whole food as its had the water removed or ruptured, the nutrition and chemical state has been altered via the cooking process. we know that whole food is better than cooked, refined, or dehydrated food.

as for the brain thriving on fats? what does this mean? the brain CANNOT fuel itself on fat. according to EVERY physiology text book out there, the human brain RUNS EXCLUSIVELY ON GLUCOSE and glucose only. fruit provides the body with the most nutrient dense and easily digested source of glucose.

when humans are in hospital on a iv drip, what is in this iv solution? its not protein, its not fat its simple sugars, salts and water. in the same ratios that we find in fruits and veg..that speaks volumes.

like i said, nobody that is 100% raw vegan and fruit phobic lasts long before they go back to cooked food and or animal products.

to succeed we must be eating sufficient calories from sweet fruit to meet our daily requirements. otherwise we will be driven to cooked starches, oils excess nuts and or animal products to provide suffcient calories.

oh and for the record, nobody has to be 100% raw vegan, but if you do, there is a way to obtain and sustain it. so yeah, im not gonna chase you down if you dont want to be a raw vegan..lol!

im the only person in australia that i know whom eats 100% australian food. so that speaks volumes for sustainablity.

and when bananas get as popular as they should, they will be growing them in hothouses in iceland and maine..

Topic: Food Preparation / Quick recipes when starving

Great topic! I need this info too. I’d say guacamole is always a quick option. I buy a lot of avocados when they’re on sale and move them to the fridge as the ripen. An easy yummy meal is to fill large mushroom caps with guac and then top with sliced tomato. For guac I usually just slightly mash the avocados with a bit of sea salt and call it a day. Tasty!

Topic: Being Raw / Overwhelmed with food combining -- trying hard to stay raw!!!

I realize this post was started a while ago, but I would just like to say everyone in here all have great information on this topic. I would listen to them.

It’s way better to do bad combo’s wrather than bad combo and cooked junk food. Don’t let something that wrong get to you. You’ve bad combo’d your WHOLE LIFE (i’m assuming) with BAD FOODS. It’s okay to bad combo with great foods. As other people said, in the beginning it’s not that big of deal. When you’re body becomes not so numb it will feel the effects of bad combining. That is when you can change what you are doing.

It also sounds like you are not eating enough to satiate you. Eat your fruits right when you start dinner. That way they can get out first, before they ferment. Also, this will help fill you up and satisfy your needs. Salads are great, but they do not have the proper calories your body is probably burning worrying about combining! (or other energy consuming activities you do ;-] )

Dry brushing to me sounds like work. I think it might be easier and cheaper just to loofah yourself everytime you take a bath.

Well I have to say I am so blessed to be here in Puerto Rico at the Ann Wigmore Institute. I wake up each morning and have fresh grown trays of Wheatgrass waiting for me to juice. Then I cut a variety of our own sprouts, fresh greens from our garden, and Organic fruits from our Farm. It truely is heaven on earth here. I am just finishing a bowl of some Energy Soup. I think it is so important, especially now, to learn to be self sufficient with your food supply, Where ever you Live!

Topic: New to Raw / Food Combining

Hello kait! This is how my day went Lunch: Banana’s ( a whole lot of them ) Dinner:5 small Mangoe’s, Plums (Not sure how many, I made a sauce out of them last week because they were about to go bad) 3 Nectarines, 1 hd Romaine, Little over a handful of hemp seeds.

I eat a mostly fruit base diet, as you can see. I would suggest to take it slow with combining foods, don’t stress yourself over them. That’s what I did and it took the fun out of living. When you start combining more properly, your body will tell you what to and what not to combine. Usually a good way of telling is heartburn, gas, and/or bloating. If your food isn’t previously digest from your other meal then it can result in fermentation of fruit and you will feel these symptoms. But that will just let you know that you need to space out your eating!

Edit: Some of my days consist of pure mono meals. Lunch is a mono, and dinner is a mono. I really really love mono mealing. It’s so simple! I also ate just the way I wrote it. My dinner was not combined into a salad. I love eating my greens by themself. It gives me a true sense of when I had enough!

Topic: Being Raw / sprouting and raw quinoa?

kellyne think of it this way, you have a seed with the potential to sprout life (a plant), all you need to do is add water. So you soak the seed for 4 hours, and then drain, the next morning rinse with water and drain again, by the end of the day the seed should of sprouted with a little tail, full of LIFE ENERGY. You can add it to a salad, or mix it with chopped veggies and a vinaigrette or Blend it with a Seed milk and Banana for a morning breakfast!!

I am not sure if this is anything that you would be interested in al all, (Meditating might want to chime in on this as she has first-hand experience) but I would do an internet search on Camphill Communities. They are intentional communities for people with developmental disabilities that are located all over the world and people can work and live there to help support these communities and the people who live there. Note: it isn’t a vegan community though (although still a very loving and important cause!)

Edit: Now I’m thinking that maybe it was Greenghost who lived in a Camphill Community before and not Meditating. I’m sorry for getting mixed up! :)

Thanks KAIT :) I’m sorry to hear that your boyfriend is not supportive. I understand how that is. I was SAD for the first 1 1/2 years of our relationship, while she was vegetarian. I supported her 100%. When I went from SAD, to Vegi, to vegan, to raw in 2 months, she was not too supportive. That was great of her though, she didn’t understand and I sure as heck didn’t understand raw. I wasn’t eating right and she watched me sort’ve dwindle into a beautiful stick! As I gained more knowledge, she become more supportive. Same with my family. Once I knew what I was doing, and could answer their questions, they backed off and became more supportive.

I hope your boyfriend will soon understand why you are the way you are. You should be the one not supportive of his diet. I mean, always support him, but feed him tid bits of information to see if he bites. But honestly, I do really hope that you can feel the support you deserve from the one who means most!

Now, back to the main topic :)

Topic: Other Stuff / Economic Meltdown in Iceland

Blue_Eyes – I couldn’t agree with you more, as far as I am concerned I am convinced 100% that this crisis has been planned for a long time, it is just too obvious to me. The politicians and mainstream media want you to believe that the bankers have made a “mistake” by lending too much money (how naive), just think about it, bankers (often the same families like the Rothschilds) have been lending money for centuries (if not millennia) and suddenly they no longer know how to run their business and estimate risks… quite strange to say the least!

In my opinion these are the real reasons of the so called banking crisis:

1. Wipe out the middle class and baby boomers’ savings

2. To introduce a new system (a new world order if you like) you must first demolish the old structure. Once the system has failed the governments will introduce a new banking system claiming that the past errors should not be repeated and offer to have a new and better solution, a new environment and maybe a global one with a new global electronic currency (this may take few more years though)

or maybe I am simply too creative!! LOL

Topic: New to Raw / Anybody else find "raw" time-consuming and "difficult"?

To save time, I do things all at once. IF I’m adding veggies to my salads, I like to chop up a whole head of cauliflower, and/or at least two or three of whatever other veggies. I make big batches of anything that will last more than a day (salad dressing, seed cheese, dessert, etc.), so I have it left over. Saves a lot of setup & cleanup time doing things all at once.

To stay full longer, I eat seed cheese &/or avocados &/or hemp seeds in my salads. I eat 1/4 to 1/2 of a raw pie as a meal. I eat LOADS of filling fruit (mangoes, bananas, etc.). I also like to have raw snacks (crackers, bars, bananas, etc.) with me any time I’ll be gone very long.

TreeOfLife – I have no advice on living off the land, BUT I wanted to chime in and comment on something you mentioned in another thread.

I AM SO JEALOUS that you have a significant other who is vegan and cares about their health. My boyfriend is an extreme SAD eater who doesn’t understand or bother to try to understand my way of eating. He thinks it’s ridiculous and is NOT supportive at all.

SO you’re lucky :-P that’s all.

LOL no dodo, don’t be sorry i wasn’t offended, i think you have a right to defend yourself. but, it was very clear that you were not just defending yourself, you were supplementing your defense with offense. i have no problem with that, but following it with “namaste” as a peace declaration is extremely amusing to me..
