Depends how hungry you are- I'd say 12 for a normal size brownie

These brownies are hands-up the best brownies I've ever had. The flavor is just insanely addictive and delicious. I've fed them to SAD eaters and they loved them just as much as me.

Ingredients:

1 cup walnuts
1 cup macadamia nuts
2 cups medjool dates (pitted)
1/2 cup cacao powder

Preparation:

Throw the nuts in the food processor first- blend, then add the dates and cacao powder.

Line an 8x8 pan with plastic wrap and then press the brownie mixture into pan. Cover and place and freezer for about 15 minutes to firm it up a bit. Take it out and leave it on counter or in the fridge. Enjoy!!

I use carob powder and have made these a number of times. They taste better each time. For me the trick is blending thoroughly and adding the dates one at a time.

I made these and though I only had one cookie size worth, the combination of hard to digest fatty nuts and cacao and high sugar dates sent my system into complete shocky overload :( Still searching for a tasty lowfat raw chocolate brownie recipe...

3. I've frozen them and they are

I've frozen them and they are better that way. I may have also put in too much cacao. I can't figure out my reaction since I can eat plenty of dates and nuts at one sitting. Weird.

4. I guess it was the intense

Submitted by joannabanana on December 29, 2009 - 9:09am.

I guess it was the intense flavor that everyone loved (according to what my class said). It's interesting how different everyone's tastebuds are, but I hope you can change them so you like them. I think the grated carrots or grated apple is a good idea, even a mashed banana. Also, you may want to try 1/3 cup cacao and see if that makes a difference because most of the flavor is from the cacao. Maybe add a vanilla bean if you just use 1/3 cup. I tasted it as I went along and found that I loved the 1/2 cup flavor.

5. I made these for Christmas

I made these for Christmas and I must have botched them somehow, even though I followed the recipe exactly. The first bite is OMG wonderful but that's all anyone can eat! They're soooooo intense and heavy. I think if I make them again I'll try putting in some greens and maybe grated carrots to dilute the sugar and fat. But I'm open to comments and suggestions.

6. i think regular dates (like

Submitted by joannabanana on October 24, 2009 - 12:44pm.

i think regular dates (like deglect noir) would work fine, but you would need more of them. medjool dates are so huge.

i'm glad you liked it cvc!! i decided to add the macadamias because they are so rich and they make the brownies really fudgy.

Sounds yummy. Are medjool dates necessary? They are very very expensive here. Can I used regular dates?

9. I always make these exact

I always make these exact ones for my family as a healthier dessert and they love them. I always just use walnuts though as i never seem to have macs in the house. i mold them in colourful tiny silicone muffin cases decorated with a nut pressed on to the top, so cute and yummy! :D
